Hello friends! This weekend I had the great opportunity of
going on the Portland Spirit- one of the best must see sights in town! Now to
be honest, this experience was a little nerve wracking for me. I have a fear of
big bodies of water and sadly I don’t know how to swim so being on a large boat
on a very large body of water for a couple hours gave me some anxiety, but
nonetheless I had an amazing time. Downtown Portland is a must-see spot for
people in the city. On the weekends it is filled with things to do such as
great spots for nightlife, walking on the Portland Waterfront feeding birds,
seeing live street performers, stopping at the famous Voodoo Doughnuts, riding
the NIKE bikes, and of course water activities which include The Portland
Spirit and jet skis. Within short distance is the OMSI Museum, great place for
children and visitors. The event I was
attending was the wedding after party of one of my close family friends. Weddings
in Haitian culture are something very important and close to the heart.
Typically, the wedding begins in the afternoon and celebration lasts until the
next morning! The preparation time for the wedding normally takes up the entire
morning, set-up, décor and rehearsal are all done the night before. Overall
this weekend was one to remember. Looking up at the stars and seeing the beauty
of the city at night was quite relaxing. The breeze on the deck and the soft
rocking of the boat put the icing on the cake. Although I do have a fear of
things that involve large bodies of water this is an experience I would go through
again. Maybe riding the jet skis is next on my to-do list. The night was filled
with good food, laughter, dancing and great vibes. If you are new to the Portland
area, or never been, I highly recommend it.
